Open the freezer. Find the ice maker. There’s a small switch somewhere on it — toggle or rocker. Make sure it’s ON. Now look at the control arm. That wire bail or plastic lever sitting above the ice bin. If it’s up, push it down. Arm up means “bin is full, stop producing.” Your bin isn’t full. The arm just got bumped. One more. Freezer Temp — Boring but It’s Usually This

Dead valve = no water to the mold. Here’s what confuses people: the water dispenser on the door might still work perfectly. Different solenoid in the same valve body. One can die without touching the other. So “but the water works fine!” doesn’t rule out the valve.
Before you replace anything — check the inlet screen. Tiny mesh filter right where the supply line screws in. Sediment and mineral crud love that screen.
Screen clean but still no water to the mold? Multimeter on the ice maker solenoid — 200 to 500 ohms means it’s alive. Open line means dead coil. New valve: $40–$80 for the part.
Old Water Filter Killing Your Ice
Clogged filter drops water pressure. Inlet valve needs at least 20 psi to open. Below that, valve tries, can’t pull enough water through, mold stays empty. Ice maker sits there doing nothing.

Resetting the Ice Maker
Sometimes it just needs a reboot.
Didn’t work? Find the reset button on the ice maker itself — small, usually recessed, might need a toothpick to press. Hold ten seconds. You should hear the motor run and water fill the mold. Give it twenty-four hours.
No button? Switch the ice maker off, wait five minutes, switch it back on. Same idea.
When to Stop Googling and Call Someone
You’ve checked everything: the switch, the arm, the temperature, the filter, the supply line, the fill tube, the inlet screen. All good, but still no ice.
At this point you’re looking at a failed module, dead solenoid, wiring break inside the door, or a control board that’s not sending voltage. All fixable — but you need a multimeter, wiring diagrams, and the willingness to pull the ice maker apart down to the motor.
